In today’s world, our drinking water are susceptible to contamination and other threats such as lead in old water pipes, biofilm outbursts and others. This is one of the many reasons the public stopped trusting their drinking water. While simple filtration systems can be used to improve water taste and quality, they do not provide a full protection from bacterial growth and that becomes even more critical when working in high volumes.
Due to these reasons, in recent years we are witnessing a growing demand and extreme consumption of single-use plastic bottled water. However, most of these bottles are not regulated and include the toxins in the plastic, which then inevitably leaches into the water itself, posing a health threat. Also, the direct result of the increased consumption is the accumulation of plastic waste, causing an environmental disaster that is only expected to worsen.
