LEAD IN WATER
According to the EPA, Lead is a significant concern for the growing bodies of children and infants, as they absorb more lead than the average adult.
Lead can be found in piping systems, faucets, valves, brazed/welded joints, and other sources. Many water distribution systems throughout the world have aging infrastructure and varying levels of lead contamination. The World Health Organization states that “Even blood lead concentrations as low as 5 µg/dL, once thought to be a “safe level”, may be associated with decreased intelligence in children, behavioral difficulties, and learning problems.”
Communities and school systems around the county are starting to become aware of this public health matter. The recent crisis in Flint, Michigan helped bring the issue to the front and center, but other water systems throughout the country have been finding varying levels of lead contamination as well. Lead was discovered in the water of many schools in varying levels, and they were forced to shutting off their tap-water dispensers and switch to bottled water or take other preventative measures. The safety and quality of water that our children drink is now being threatened and the need for safe water dispensers is now of the utmost importance.
A Point-of-Use water purification system is one that purifies the incoming water from the local municipality and dispenses consistent and safe drinking water for the users of the system. The current commercially available filtration systems use only static filters, which can be effective for the removal of lead and other contaminants, but also remove essential disinfectants (commonly chlorine) from the water. Once you remove chlorine, this allows for bacterial growth inside the water dispensing system. To overcome this barrier, a complete water-treatment system with post-filtration purification is needed to keep the water safe. Woosh offers an innovative solution that produces great tasting water that is free of harmful containments such as lead in the source water and free of bacterial growth.
